Mthandeni SK & MaWhoo’s ‘Gucci’ single has reached 1 million streams on YouTube in less than 24 hours of its release.
I think Maskandi is one of the biggest genre in South Africa, far bigger than Amapiano if we are to judge by the numbers of stream tracks from the genre amass in just a short period of time and sincerely, YouTube is where majority of the genre’s soldier reside.
The numbers of streams some of these Maskandi releases get on YouTube alone is for higher than what they get on iTunes and Spotify combine and this new release from Mthandeni SK & MaWhoo is a testament to this fact. While the track has struggled to get 100k streams on Spotify, it has amassed over one million streams on YouTube and still counting.
This is not the first time Mthandeni SK will be making a mark with his offering. His Paris single had over 30 million streams and it’s one of the biggest Maskandi record ever released.
Will this track from Mthandeni SK & MaWhoo be South Africa’s biggest release of 2024? Only time can tell!
