One half of the house music duo Malumz on Decks, Oscar Nyathi, popularly known as “Oscar Baxx,” was reportedly shot and killed outside Blue Valley Golf Estate in Johannesburg on February 28, 2026.
According to multiple reports, the producer was travelling in a Toyota vehicle alongside three other occupants when they were allegedly attacked by unidentified gunmen in a drive-by shooting. The suspects reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of two occupants, while the other two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Oscar Baxx, who was 28 years old, contributed greatly to the growth and sustainability of house music. His contributions to “S’vuthela iNumber” alongside Murumba Pitch, as well as “TEKA” with Mpho Wav, helped make the songs some of the biggest releases in the house music scene in recent years.
Before his death, Oscar Baxx and his partner in Malumz on Decks were preparing to release “uMa Ka Girl” with Section Five, Budda Sage, ZIDDO, and Cebow M this Friday, May 29, 2026.
