Unjoko has always made it their top priority to give us hot bangers. Well, the continued dominance and survival of Maskandi depend on such consistent offerings. The latest to come from their stables is this newest album collection called “Isithombes’iPhone.”
Made up of 10 heavy songs, “Isithombes’iPhone” walks further down that path to deliver a trifecta of sounds, guiding listeners through Maskandi’s full spectrum that encompasses everything from traditional rhythms and Kasi melodic bliss to dope Zulu chants, all of which make for an album that is heavy, melodious, and catchy.
This album is for the taxi ranks, the family gatherings, the small bars in the Kasi, and more. And if we are to summarize, I’d say hearing softer, more melodic sounds rising out of a genre many have limited to traditional grooves is rare, and turning that sound into something the mainstream can easily bop to, while keeping traditional fans entertained, is not something we often come across.
