Certain collaborations and remixes are always worth our attention, and this new one from Stixx & Hugh Maskela featuring The Bless entitled “Marketplace 2.0” is one of those songs you listen to and then smile afterwards.
Hugh Masekela remains one of the biggest trumpeters, flugelhornists, cornetists, singers, and composers to have ever emerged from the South African music scene. Even after his demise in 2018, no one has contributed to South African jazz music as much as he did, and I don’t think those records will be broken anytime soon.
Paying homage to this great star, Stixx has returned with his remix of Hugh Masekela’s chart-topping record, “Marketplace,” for a lavish Amapiano remake. On this one, he retains the original essence of the track while infusing it with modern piano twists and flair.
“Marketplace” was one of the lead singles on Hugh Masekela’s Hope live album, released on 1 February 1994 and distributed by Studio Blues. Although over three decades old, this song still has a place in the hearts of many listeners, and, following the traditions of the Amapiano scene, Stixx has given us his own reimagining, and you are going to love it!
