Thandazani has already proven his worth with the release of his 10-track album, Ngazalwa Ngifumbethe, which doubles as the lead song as well as the album title. Built on top of his typical storytelling, the song takes advantage of the traditional flavours of Maskandi with a fusion of modern rhythms, and he was able to deliver just the perfect single.
I’ve never doubted the capabilities of Maskandi artists. If you’ve followed some of my publications, you would see how I have always wondered how they consistently release bangers that do big numbers. Even established sounds like Amapiano barely have random artists who release songs that do big numbers across digital stores and platforms.
One answer to this is that Maskandi, unlike other sounds permeating the South African music scene, is rooted in our culture, our traditions, and the ways of those before us. So, songs of such origins always have a place among the young and old, and with the modern way music is being distributed, Maskandi artists have been able to cover a large expanse of listeners and bring the good vibes to more ears.
Ngazalwa Ngifumbethe is the latest Maskandi hit, and this one might just give Thandazani some awards this year!
