Maskandi star artist Inkos’yamagcokama Dlamini has passed away following a car accident on the John Ross Highway near Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Sunday, 9 August 2026, while he was on his way to a gig, his family has announced.
According to a statement issued by the artist’s management and shared on his official social media account, Inkos’yamagcokama was travelling with three members of his stage crew at the time of the tragedy.
Due to the severity of the impact, Inkos’yamagcokama was sadly not the only person who lost his life. One of the three other occupants, Gumu “Gupta” Mchunu, also died in the accident.
The crash has claimed two lives, while the other two occupants sustained serious injuries. One is in a critical but stable condition, while the other suffered significant injuries and is receiving medical attention.
Before his untimely death, Inkos’yamagcokama was regarded as one of the most innovative forces in the Maskandi music scene. His contribution to the genre, through hit songs such as “Akuhlukaneki” featuring Sne Ntuli, “ISAZOCHOMELANA” featuring Boohle, “KUYAZENZAKALELA” and “Mina Ngithathiwe”, helped introduce Maskandi to a broader audience.
