It’s part of our tradition to always vote the best song when a Maskandi artists releases an album , and for Umfoka Msezane’s newest album , “Ushayasbhamu” is our favourite pick.
When Saliwa released his long-awaited “Izinsalela” on September 5, we knew it was only a matter of time before Umfoka Msezane made his own release. In case you don’t know, there is a subtle beef and rivalry between the two, and whoever delivers the finest Maskandi offering wins, at least in the eyes of fans of the two artists who have inherited the rivalry, as is typical among music lovers.
For us neutral observers, we believe healthy competition is good for the Maskandi scene. Proving that his works slap harder than Saliwa’s, Umfoka Msezane gave us “Awulith’ Qheke” over the weekend, a collection of 12 tracks that captures the pure essence of Maskandi and reminds us of the genre’s old-school melodies.
“Ushayasbhamu” is our favourite pick from this album, and it stands out for its strong essence. It is arguably one of the finest solo releases we have heard from Umfoka Msezane.
