After their first album released last May before summer, PSSNGR’s Toxicated Keys are already back with a new full-length. Coproduced by the Gwam Ent. Musiq. duo (formed of Kabelo Mphiwa aka Jazzy and Mosa Prologic aka Logic), also hailing from Mamelodi East, this 17-track collection shows an often trippier and more eclectic blend of sounds.
Rough Musiq and clunk bass are still a very strong presence, but you can also hear the influence of Sgija and Barcardi scenes, as well as Mozambican tastes. It’ll please Western clubbers in the way deep and warm house grooves are mixed with sharp cold drum tracks and basslines. A touch of Ibiza here, a bit of New York there, and even a hint of microhouse on the amazing “Backspace”.
Vocal guests (such as Cartel The Voice, Kea or Lah Presh) from Mamelodi are also thrown into the mix, and the result is an impressive demonstration of how versatile and creative those four guys can be when working together. Halfway between futuristic dance tracks and roots-oriented songs, this new LP gives a whole new dimension to Rough MusiQ.
