Aymos has just given us a song that both Gen Z, Boomers and Millennials can easily dance to via “Xigubu 2.0,” and on this one, he taps on the assistance of Blissbouy, Blackmyth, Canicee & Blesser Oga.
There are songs that only certain generations can understand and relate to, and Umbala Ma G-String is one of them. Released on May 30, 1996, by Chicco as part of the Black Man White Wife album, this track United South Africans and dominated the airwaves in South Africa and was one of the biggest hits of that era.
With the end of the ’90s and the rise of Gen Z, new musical tastes and melodies emerged, vastly different from what some of our parents grooved to in the ’90s. These differences make it hard for generations to dance to the same tunes, even when both are melodious. Umbala Ma G-String can still get those born in the ’70s and ’80s moving because of its traditional and old-school vibes, but it doesn’t resonate as strongly with Gen Z due to its lack of modern elements. Likewise, contemporary songs that capture Gen Z’s attention often fail to interest millennials, as they lack the sounds and melodies that once filled the dancefloors during the era of old-school Afro and baggy jeans.
To bridge this generational gap, Aymos returns with Xigubu 2.0, a hybrid track built on the template of Umbala Ma G-String. On this song, he features Blissbouy, Blackmyth, Canicee, and Blesser Oga, creating a sound that merges the nostalgia of the past with the energy of the present.
