Govozile “i-Tourist” has given us the best gift since the start of his professional career via his newest album, “Icala lobunsizwa.”
We have been a fan of Govozile ever since he released his 15-track album, Siyongena K’valiwe, in 2022. And believe me, between 2022 and now, there has been a big improvement in his style and approach to Maskandi music-making. Now, he has reconciled the clashes that existed between fusing traditional flair with modern vibes, and this blend of sounds is why his own version of Maskandi is more than infectious.
With his rebranded sound, he always finds time to make impressive records. Last year, he released “Umgcagco,” a 12-track collection of bangers that had tracks like “Khwela Kuwe” and “Iminyango Evaliwe” featuring Sne Ntuli. Now, almost exactly one year later, the versatile singer and performer has launched another album, his fifth studio album, Icala Lobunsizwa, and this one sees him adopting a more emotive and vocal-driven sound that highlights his artistic evolution.
Tracks on this album were mostly produced by Zinza Zekhwapha. Co-production assistance also came from Thuthani Ndlovu, while Evans Smith handled most of the engineering. Lead guitar was played by Gebhu, and the bass guitar was delivered by Zwane, with Jayjay Mbuthuma handling the keyboard. Govozile Khumalo handled all background vocals, and all tracks were recorded at TAKK Studio, with track mixing and engineering by Evan Smith.
