When Grand Theft Auto V was released, many local sounds in South Africa hadn’t yet been developed and refined to the extent that they now dominate the global stage.

Now, with Grand Theft Auto VI, South African sounds like Amapiano are now a global sound, competing in relevance with Afrobeats and American Hip-hop, and with this relevance comes a lot of expectations. And one of such expectations is that whenever other sounds are featured on a global project, we somehow hope Amapiano gets a bit of representation, and this is true for Grand Theft Auto VI.

One of the finest games ever made, the GTA series usually comes with sets of sixteen stations that players can tune into, playing songs. These stations usually have around 441 tracks of licensed music, and these tracks cut across various genres, including Hip-hop, R&B, soul, and more.

With new genres entering the global stage like Amapiano, Afrobeats, 3Step, and more, the tracks played on the Grand Theft Auto VI in-game stations won’t be limited to Hip-hop alone, or songs by American talents, but by a variety of talents, and from all indicators, Amapiano and 3Step might be featured as soundtracks on the $1 billion game that will be hitting the shelves in the coming months.

Although there are no official statements from Rockstar Games on the official sounds and tracks to be featured, some Amapiano artists are already sharing screenshots of them being reached by Rockstar Games to have their music featured on Grand Theft Auto VI.

One recent claim that came to light was the one from El Maestro, a versatile Amapiano talent who helped pioneer the sound. Although his claims of being reached by Rockstar Games can’t be independently verified, similar claims have been made by other artists. And sincerely, nothing will beat the experience of Amapiano being included in the game.

Imagine driving through the streets of Vice City with songs like “Jozi Night” by GemValleyMusiQ & Officixl RSA playing, menh, what a heavenly feeling.

Well, we will discover the truth on November 19, 2026, when the game finally lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems.
