In what seems like a surprise collaboration, Khuthuza has tapped on Qwabe Twins for this special release, “Ubuhle Bendalo.”
When a sound goes mainstream, one of the first signs is the growing interest from artists who would ordinarily have little association with the genre. They begin seeking collaborations, recognizing its influence and reach. In the early days of Maskandi, only a handful of mainstream artists were willing to collaborate with Maskandi musicians. In fact, most Maskandi releases were solo efforts, and the few collaborations that did exist were usually between fellow Maskandi talents.
Today, however, the genre has grown into one of the biggest forces in the South African music scene, making it an attractive space for artists from various backgrounds. It is now common to see Afro-Pop, Amapiano, Deep House, and even Hip-Hop artists teaming up with traditional Maskandi acts. These collaborations have produced some of Maskandi’s biggest and most memorable records, and sincerely, they are vital for the genre’s continued growth and expansion.
Today, we are excited to present another such cross-genre collaboration. This time, Khuthuza joins forces with the Qwabe Twins on the beautiful single “Ubuhle Bendalo.” This song is out everywhere and it’s one that blends traditional grooves with contemporary melodies, and the result is a collection of sounds you don’t want to sleep on.
