What the Ama2000 are doing in the Maskandi scene is enormous and deserves some accolades. Completely revolutionising the Maskandi sound while keeping its traditional flavours is not something we imagined would happen anytime soon.
Continuing to bridge the gap that exists between what our older Maskandi listeners want and what our younger listeners want, talents like Mahostela 97, kaMaphanga, Yolokazi & Nalithi began retouching the Maskandi flavours and rewiring its melodic essence while keeping intact the traditional buzz that draws us to the sound. The result of all these modifications is tracks that continue to attract more listeners to the genre and make Maskandi music digestible to all demographics.
Their newest song, “Yimi Umaqondana,” is a beauty of innovation, and this one is already dominating the charts just a few days after it was released.
