You blink your eyes off the Maskandi charts and you already have a new song popping and dominating the airwaves. One song that has got everyone on chokehold this very moment is this one from Njabulo Langa & Mjikelo entitled “uBhanyazile.”
I don’t know how Maskandi artists do it, but they seem to be the only artists in a genre in South Africa where almost every release amasses large numbers of streams, especially on YouTube. Well, our only explanation for this is that their followers are hardcore and are always on the go to push the play button whenever there’s a new song to feast on.
I mean, these followers are mostly our parents, lovers of Zulu culture and melodic rhythms, taxi rank operators and drivers, event organizers, and so much more. These followers enhance their day-to-day activities by listening to Maskandi songs, and it’s not so surprising to see them jump on any new song that is on the radar.
“uBhanyazile” is the newest delivery popping up on the charts, and this one is the latest from Njabulo Langa. It arrives as the next chapter in an ongoing campaign that’s slowly reshaping the melodic landscape in the Maskandi spectrum. The song features traditional chants and beats, while the vocals, which are strengthened by the use of the Zulu language, give the whole song a rich melodic essence.
