The impact of the Lekompo sound in the South African music scene can not be overemphasized. From a sound that was first played in the streets of Limpopo, to dominating airwaves all over the country, the sound has really progressed and we are happy with the recognition it’s finally getting.
The end of every year usually has radio stations revealing their top 10 most favourite records of the year. As per tradition, Thobela FM has just released their most played record of the year and not so surprisingly, Shebeshxt’s Rato Laka took home the awards.
Rato Laka was released in September of 2025 and within few months of its release, it has amassed over 20 million streams on YouTube alone. Featuring Naqua SA , Zee Nxumalo & Slidoo Man, the song again positioned Lekompo as one of the biggest genre in the country.
Acknowledging the impact the song has made in the country, Thobela FM has just crowned it the song of the year.
