We were told that Umkhathazi was working on a banger, but we never thought it would be this explosive. Out now from his corners is “Esingisini.”
While change is constant and necessary if one wants to ever survive the competitive music industry, we believe some talents are better off with the style and voices that gave them the fame they are enjoying. And in the case of Umkhathazi, the singer has given us a solid new song that reminds us of that voice and storytelling that we have known for a long time and cherish.
“Esingisini” is a typical Maskandi song with a small influence from the type of beat we usually get from uMgqumeni and iSwidi, with refreshing vocals that are distinctly and stylistically Umkhathazi, and the final output is a song that is an immersive and intimate production that further invites listeners into his sonic sphere and in-depth knowledge of Maskandi, as well as the ways of the Zulu rhythm.
This song release follows his recent bangers, “Icishe” feat. Mashotana and “Sizoyiphusha ngenkani,” further cementing his presence in the Maskandi scene. This song is one of the two songs released by him this week, and I believe this is the hardest of the two.
