Deep Essentials enters the roster of the Somnyama Sunsets session for their 041 episode, and on this one, he made a perfect kill.
There is a difference between when a Deep House producer compiles a Deep House mixtape and when a producer and Deejay from another genre compiles one. The transitions, the tracks selected, and their progression always give away that you are not of Deep House origin, as we have seen with previous episodes of the Somnyama Sunsets sessions that featured Deejays from other genres mounting the decks.
Don’t get me wrong, Deejays are trained in the art of music, which means they are very much capable of compiling just about any sound, regardless of its origin or style. But like most other endeavours, Deejays have their favourite sounds, and when they make mixtapes, their strength usually lies in the sounds they are used to. And this is what Deep Essentials shows on this mix.
Somnyama Sunsets 041 differs a lot from all the other episodes of the series, and for the first time in a while, we not only dance to Deep House melodies, but we also understand the motives and essence behind the sound.
