Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi during the week unveiled a new Crime Busting Unit for Gauteng province. The trained wardens are expected to patrol and combat serious crime in the streets of Gauteng.
With a budget of nearly R450 million and to successfully carry on with the tough task of protecting Gauteng, the trained corps were armed with a fleet of BMWs, Bakkies, helicopters, Mobile Police Stations & Drones.
As usual, Tweeps reacted to the news with mixed reactions with some suggesting that the Wardens be physically fit to enable them carry out the job effectively.
See reactions below;
Let us not be negative, this is a good initiative. But those staying in estates and complexes won’t understand the shit some of us go through daily. I hope they work with communities hand in hand.

The addition of security forces to fight crime in Gauteng raises questions about the role of existing law enforcement agencies like the SAPS and JMPD. Will their duties change? 🤔

In Q4 2022 there were 3.2m unemployed people in Gauteng up 1.8m from Q4 2008. Unemployment rate was 39 4%. Panyaza 6000 jobs are 0.2% of the unemployed. We cant create jobs when there is austerity and SARB is hiking rates. GP does not have policy tools to address unemployment

I wonder who they consult with these programs. It feels like a movie. From the uniforms to the purchasing of the vehicles and training, it went through hundreds of people without anyone raising any of these issues!
