Biography
Nkosikhona Russell Zuma, better known as Russell Zuma, is a South African Singer Songwriter. He was born and raised in
Durban, KZN. He began his musical career by being a backup singer for Lucky Mngadi (Lucky & Friends Gospel Choir) and went on to further his musical knowledge at Bet Centre under the tutelage of Xolisa Dlamini(Vocals), Sfaniso Bophela(Music business) and the late Theo Bophela(Music Theory). He was
later chosen to be the lead vocalist for BET Centre school band, performing at places such as Playhouse and the Durban
University of Technology (DUT).
Russell Zuma was introduced to house music by his childhood friend and business partner Mzamo (Mzet) Ndaba, who was a Dj at that time. He then went on to make a song with Dj Museri “inkomo” which later caught the attention of Bongani Dlamini (Dj Bongz). He later met Gugulethu Ngxabi(Gifford) and Mapheelle Mongali (Suppressor) and they formed a Band called “Groove Jam”. He also worked with the likes of Spin Worx and Brewed Souls under House Africa. Thereafter, he went on and worked with the legendary Dj Kabila on “Music Will Save the Day” album.
He then met George Lesley who produced and released his debut Single, “Ishumi Leminyaka.” He worked with him again
and together with Gaba Cannal, which led to his feature on the hit song “Healer Ntliziyo Yami.” He’s featured on the hit song “Emaxhoseni” by Dj Stax, and on “Woza Moya” by Artwork Sounds.
Russell Zuma is a big force to be reckoned with, judging from the hit songs he’s featured in and the success of his current, newly released solo project, NEXT LEVEL, which is produced by George Lesley. It features the likes of Kabza De Small, Gaba Cannal, COCO SA, Murumba Pitch, Artwork Sounds, just to name a few.
