Spotify & iTunes Take Down Tebza De DJ’s ‘Ka Valungu’ for illegally Sampling African Vibes Part2 by “Peta Teanet”

Spotify, iTunes, and other DSPs have taken down Tebza De DJ’s recent chart-topping single ‘Ka Valungu’ featuring DJ Nomza The King due to allegations of illegal sampling of the song “African Vibes Part 2” by “Peta Teanet.”

Kavalungu had just hit NO. 1 on Spotify surpassing Mnike by Tyler ICU. From our research, we can confirm that Kavalungu is basically a remix of Pete Teanet’s song African Vibe Pt.2 which was in his album, King of Shangaan Disco that was released a few days after he was shot dead in 1996. It’s sung in Shangaan of the xiTsonga language.

Kavalungu apparently retains the melodic vocals of “African Vibes Part 2” but with a touch of more infectious and refined Piano beats that overlay the entire production. Released under EMI Music South Africa (Pty) and distributed by Universal Music Group, “African Vibes Part 2” once dominated dancefloors in the 90’s and Tebza De DJ’s unauthorized rendition just brought the old vibes back to life.

For now, Tebza De DJ’s Ka Valungu has been removed from all digital stores and we don’t know if charges will be pressed against him later.
