Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode Wins first Grammy Award for “Best Global Music Performance” Category

Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode have bagged their first Grammy award in the 2023 ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category.

Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode together with Wouter Kellerman were honored at the 65th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles for their collaborative banger Bayethe.

Although this might be Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode’s first Award, It is Wouter Kellerman’s third Grammy win as he has previously took home the gramny award for Global Music Performance and New Age Album.

“This is such a beautiful moment on the road to sharing South African music and culture with the world. Thank you Nomcebo, thank you Zakes for your incredible creativity. Thanks to Tholsi Pillay, my manager and friend, who stood with me and thank you JB Arthur. Thanks to you all my peers who supported us. I’ll never forget it,” Wouter Kellerman said while accepting the award on stage.

Being his first major international win, Bantwini, appreciated the Grammy for honoring him with the prestigious award. “I just want to say, we are coming from Africa, South Africa. And this moment right here to anybody who’s in Africa just proves and affirms that every dream is valid. And I want to say thank you very much to the academy and thank you very much to each and everyone. Every child in the ghetto, in the village, just know it’s possible.”

Taking to the stage to accept the award. Zikode said: “Thank you so much to God. You know I once gave the world a song (Jerusalema) that took the world by storm. The world that got us together, but I didn’t get this nomination or this award. But God was saying to me, ‘Don’t worry my daughter, I will give you Bayethe. Thank you so much to my mom, thank you so much to my husband, Selwyn Fraser. Believe me, this is yours. Your support is amazing. Thank you so much to all my team. Thank you.”
