It’s a sign of international success for a DJ when he gets to play a set at any festival or event held in Ibiza. But little do fans know that some promoters charge DJs heavily just for them to get a slot to perform at one of the biggest festival islands in the world.
Foremost House producer, Lars Behrenroth has revealed that he was billed £5k by a promoter to get a slot at Ibiza but be declined, questioning the sanity behind a deejay paying to entertain people.
Normally, artists are supposed to earn big just by performing in an international festival in Ibiza due to its luxurious spot and concentration of music lovers and party fanatics, but for producers who are yet to get to the level of Black Coffee, DJ Snake, Skrillex or David Guetta, they are being made by promoters to pay a certain amount of money to mount the decks at Ibiza.
Questioning the sanity behind the need for deejays to pay to play, Lars Behrenroth has called out promoters with such practices.
“Thanks for your email. Your music line has been approved. The price to play in the festival is €5000. It includes the slot time and all the promotion before during and after the festival on all our medias and the international press office,” – an email sent to Lars Behrenroth by a promoter.
As a deejay, what do you think? Can you pay such a huge amount of money to perform?
