According to a statement issued by Khuzani, he said he never bribed any Ukhozi FM officials to award him the song of the year title and neither did he vote himself to the number one position.

On the 31st of December 2023, Khuzani’s ‘UMJOLO LOWO’ was crowned as the Song of the Year by Ukhozi FM after amassing 993,667 votes. The award caused lots of controversies, owing to the fact that the majority of South Africans had hoped Dlala Thukzin’s ‘iPlan’ single would occupy the number one position due to its popularity.

Before Khuzani was announced as Ukhozi FM’s Song of The year Awards, sports presenter and businessman Owen Ndlovu had earlier accused Khuzani of buying votes and engaging in corrupt practices, requesting he pulls out of the competition and allow others compete fairly.

“I hereby request that Khuzani Mpungose must withdraw from the Song Of The Year 10. Khuzani must stop competing in the Song Of The Year because he won it before. The last time he won the Song Of The Year Competition he voted for himself 250,000 times, that’s fraud. The public should be voting for him. People are the ones that should be voting. When he won that 2021 competition he requested me not to stop the SABC to court over it,” he said in an interview granted to Zimoja.
