I’m of the believe that not all records need a remix. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way against renditions, but I just feel tracks that are perfectly made has no reason for it to be retouched and Mnike is one of such track. Released in 2023 via DJ Maphorisa’s New Money Gang records, the track has grown to become of the biggest Amapiano record ever released.
In it’s one year of its release, it has amassed over 100 million streams across digital platforms and the numbers continues to swell. With the success of the record, it is only normal for people to want to add their touch to it and today, Tyler ICU & Tumelo ZA give access to Nigeria’s Lojay & Shallipopi for a remix of ‘Mnike.’
This newest remix of Mnike retains the inputs of DJ Maphorisa, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA & Tyron Dee. And while it’s hard for us to rate the insertion of Lojay & Shallipopi’s vocals, the original beats and piano flairs which the track retains make the remix a musical piece that everyone can continue listening on repeat.
We have our reservations about this drop but we are happy to see the progress Amapiano is making worldwide, competing with established genres like Afro Beat and undeniably becoming the face of Africa music. With this newest remix, we should expect more African artists to want to key into the Amapiano trends and we are always here to drop our take!
