We are used to Amapiano artists refusing to pitch for an event they have been fully booked for, but what seems strange is them now refusing to perform after some of their additional demands for drinks and performance riders were not met.
Last weekend, Babalwa was booked to perform at Looks Lounge’s ltsoseng Delicious event which was to be held on 26 December. On the D-day, the vocalist arrived 1 hour and 30 min late, and despite this, she was still given warm treatment. Upon her arrival, she made some additional demands that includes performance riders (alcoholic beverages) that had not been requested or agreed.
A request that was not part of their arrangement saw the management refusing to meet them and in response, Babalwa M refused to perform. With the her no longer performing, the organisers requested a booking fee refund, which was refunded in full before she was allowed to depart the venue.
“An artist who was booked to perform at 17:00 arrived approximately 1 hour and 30 min laterthan the agreed time. Despite this delay, the event organisers remained accommodating and continued preparations for the performance, as the crowd was present, excited, and ready.
However, when it was time for the artist to take the stage, additional demands were made onsite for performance riders (alcoholic beverages) that had not been requested or agreed upon prior to the event. The organisers had already provided hospitality, including Hennessy Vs, followed by Hennessy VSOP, in good faith. Despite this, further demands were made for two bottles of Veuve, with the condition that the artist would not perform without them.” A statement from Looks Lounge reads.
