DBN Gogo has just given us a sneak peek into how Amapiano will taste like in the coming years with her newest EP, “Future Frequencies.”
Many people don’t understand that a sound needs to evolve in order to stay afloat. If Amapiano had remained stagnant and sounded the same way it did in 2017, it wouldn’t have broken beyond South African borders. In fact, I believe it would still be confined to the Kasi corners. Continuous evolution, changes in style, and new melodies, although difficult for some listeners who struggle to adapt to the rapid shifts in sound, are necessary for Amapiano’s survival.
On several occasions, I’ve overheard people say they want the “old Piano,” but what they fail to realize is that if we returned to that old sound, they would eventually grow tired of it and move on to whatever sound is trending at the time. With this in mind, producers consistently work hard to evolve with the trends, and for legends like DBN Gogo, they are often the bridge through which these changes pass before becoming mainstream.
Giving us a sneak peek into what to expect from Amapiano in the near future, she has just delivered this first collection of bangers, “Future Frequencies.” On the project, she collaborates with the talents of Koko Zwane, Lebogang Komane, Mpho Spizzy, Anchor Bee, W4DE, Yolophonik, and Zango Kubheka.
